Ukraine will ban flights to and from Belarus from Wednesday and prevent passengers arriving from Belarus from passing through its airports, Prime Minister Denys Shmygal said on Tuesday in a statement on Telegram messenger, Reuters reported. President Volodymyr Zelenskiy had announced such a move on Monday amid the growing international condemnation of Belarus’ move to intercept a Ryanair plane and arrest a dissident journalist.

On Sunday Belarusians living in Ukraine along with their supporters and Ukrainian activists gathered in front of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry in Kiev to demand a reaction of Ukrainian authorities and the international community on the arrest of Roman Protasevich in Belarus. Protasevich, the editor-in-chief of the project `Belarus of the head brain` and former editor-in-chief of the Nexta opposition Belarussian Telegram channel, was detained in Minsk earlier on 23 May after the Ryanair plane, on which he flew from Athens to Vilnius, was urgently landed in Belarus.
