Bulgaria’s PM Boyko Borissov met United Arab Emirates Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Government Information Service said. “After we have boosted the relations between Bulgaria and UAE we have to keep this upward momentum and keep on developing this fruitful cooperation,” Borissov said.

The PM added that the work of the UAE embassy which had to be inaugurated during the Sheik’s visit to Bulgaria was a step forward in the bilateral relations. He underscored that it creates additional conditions for facilitating the bilateral dialogue and commercial and economic cooperation. In his opinion, the dynamic development of Bulgarian-UAE relations in recent years was based not only on the political good will but also on important regional role and significance of both countries. Thus, within six months alone, from October 2018 to March 2019, several official visits have been paid, as the most important of them was the official visit of Borissov to UAE. This was also the first bilateral visit at the highest government level.

In the course of the meeting at the Council of Ministers Borissov noted that UAE is an important and promising partner for Bulgaria. The PM outlined Bulgaria’s advantages as an investment destination and the potential of UAE for diversification of its investment portfolio in our country. According to Borissov, it would be mutually advantageous if the two countries take more concrete steps in the sphere of economic cooperation: boost commodities turnover, cooperation in information technologies, agriculture, tourism, transport, security and power engineering. Bulgaria’s PM also underlined that it is possible to hold the first session of the Joint Economic Commission. He extended congratulations to the UAE for hosting Expo-2020 in Dubai and thanked for the invitation for participation sent to Bulgaria. The PM added that our country is gearing up for participating in this event and said he was sure that it would yield beneficial economic results.

In fact, Sheikh Al Nahyan was in Bulgaria at the invitation of Vice Premier and Foreign Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva. The Bulgarian embassy in Abu-Dhabi was opened in April of 2018. The Bulgarian community living in UAE is the biggest in the Persian Gulf and numbers 3,000.

We would like to encourage closer cooperation between Bulgaria and UAE in the sphere of high-tech and artificial intelligence. This transpired from the words of Vice Premier and Foreign Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva after her meeting with Sheikh Al Nahyan at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. “I would very much like Bulgaria to develop close cooperation in the sphere of cutting-edge technologies and AI with the state which made a garden out of desert and land out of sea and develops primarily high-tech,” Zaharieva said. “I believe that we have negotiated everything that the heir to the throne of UAE and Boyko Borissov talked about in Abu-Dhabi: to elevate our relations to a more practical level and establish direct channels for communication in order to implement the negotiated projects more promptly,” Zaharieva said further. She stressed that within the recent several months alone, 12 visits have been paid by the two states’ ministers. “We would be happy to see the results of these visits soon,” Zaharieva stated.
