State of epidemic emergency extended until 30 April

At an extraordinary meeting of the government today it was decided to extend the term of the emergency epidemic situation in Bulgaria until 30 April. In this regard, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov directed the health minister to prepare an order clearly setting out the deadlines for the gradual easing of measures.

Concerning the restaurants, bars and nightclubs, the prime minister requested from the minister of health to hold a meeting with their representatives in order to discuss the possible solutions for their industry. One of the possible options for them is to open in early February at 50% of their capacity and with working hours until 10.30pm, in which case there is a risk for them to be closed again if the epidemic situation worsens. Another option for the restaurants, bars and nightclubs is for them to open from 1 March, while until then they would be supported by funds allocated through notification.

The financial support provided by the government for preserving jobs and helping businesses in Bulgaria, since the beginning of the pandemic until now, amounts to nearly BGN 2 billion. This was reported to PM Boyko Borissov during the working meeting convened by him in the Council of Ministers with participation of members of the government.
