Search for survivors after NATO helicopter crash near Greece ends

The Canadian military said  on Friday afternoon none of the six people lost in a helicopter accident in the Mediterranean have survived. The Royal Canadian Air Force CH-148 Cyclone helicopter, deployed as part of NATO's Operation Reassurance, went missing during training exercises off the coast of Greece on Wednesday evening.

The search was executed by multiple ships by Canada, Italy and Turkey. This was supported by helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft from Italy, Turkey, Greece and the United States, both during the day and at night, Canadian military officers said.

In a brief statement, the Canadian Department of Defense said the five missing crew members are now considered dead. The body of one naval officer was recovered almost immediately after the crash.
