Local elections to be held in Bulgaria today

The vote for Sofia's mayoral post is expected to be particularly contested

Today, 27 October, over 6.2 million Bulgarian citizens will be able to exercise their right to vote at country's local elections. According to the latest data, the total number of candidates for mayors and municipal councilors is close to 36,300, with elections being held in 265 municipalities in Bulgaria.

For the mayor post in Bulgaria's capital, Sofia, most of the opinion polls predict a contested race between current mayor and candidate of the GERB ruling party, Yordanka Fandakova and independent candidate Maya Manolova, who is supported by the BSP and other parties and organisations.
