Katainen will travel to Japan

Jyrki Katainen, EC Vice-President for jobs, growth, investment and competitiveness will arrive tomorrow in the Japanese city of Yokohama, where he will deliver a keynote speech at the opening session of the World Circular Economy Forum. This forum is bringing together about 1,000 policymakers, business leaders, researchers and academics from around the world to discuss how to achieve the transition towards a circular economy.  On his agenda is also a meeting with Yoshiaki Harada, Japanese Minister of the Environment.

Later on, in Tokyo, VP Katainen will chair the first EU-Japan High Level Economic, Trade and Industrial Dialogue to promote cooperation in these areas between the two sides.

On Tuesday, he will attend the opening of the Hydrogen Energy Ministerial Meeting, which will focus on the role of hydrogen technology in global decarbonisation efforts. VP Katainen will take part as well in the signature ceremony of MoUs on investment cooperation between the European Investment Bank and the Japan Bank for International Cooperation and Nippon Export and Investment Insurance.

To exchange on the preparation for the ratification and implementation of the EU-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement, which was signed in July 2018, the vice-president will also meet the Japan Chief Cabinet Secretary, leaders of the Japanese business association, and the Chairman of the Japanese Parliament Foreign Committee.
