Israel reports record 10,947 daily Covid-19 cases

Israeli Health Ministry announced on Tuesday that some 10,947 new virus cases were identified on Monday, with 7.65% of people tested screening positive. Only one other time, the country recorded more than 10,000 cases – 10,118. It was on 18 January, during the peak of the third wave, the most virulent and deadliest the country experienced, Jerusalem Post noted.

A day before schools are set to reopen, some 35,000 of the currently 83,000 active cases are schoolchildren, in addition to some 55,000 who are currently in isolation because they were exposed to verified cases.

The number of people who have received the first doses of the Covid-19 vaccine in Israel surpassed 5.97m, or 64% of its total population. Over 5.48m have taken two doses and nearly 2.16m have already got three jabs. Israel is offering third shots to everyone aged 12 and up.
