The exhibition From Vandalism to Art represents the road of 20 of the most recognisable Bulgarian and Dutch artists from the street art to the galleries and private collections.

The project, initiated by the sightseeing agency Sofia Graffiti Tour and the Embassy of the Netherlands in Bulgaria aims to show that urban street art has rebellious spirit and high artistic value, both when it transforms abandoned urban spaces and brings life back to them, and when it increasingly reaches the private collections and contemporary art galleries today, organisers say.

It opens on 1 September at Doza Gallery and will last until 14 September 2021.

Curators of the exhibition are Nash and the Sofia Graffiti Tour’s team (Tsvetan Bizev, Stella Kamenova and Nikolay Bizev). Nash is a Dutch street art legend whose unique style has become recognisable thanks to numerous projects around the world over the past 30 years. The work of Nash is a combination of realism and cartoons that clearly illustrate how street paintings can evolve into meaningful works of art.

The selected participants present examples of different generations and different stages in the development of the street art. What unites them is the strong message and the added value that each of them leaves on our environment.

The Dutch guest artist Turmoil will not only participate with his artworks, but will also paint the wall next to Doza.

The project is implemented with the financial support of the Embassy of the Netherlands in Bulgaria.
