EU foreign affairs ministers are holding informal video conference

On Monday, EU foreign affairs ministers started their informal video conference. They will be briefed by the High Representative Josep Borrell on current affairs, reviewing a number of recent developments and upcoming events. 

These are expected to include the latest developments in Georgia, India, Myanmar, Mozambique, and in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) negotiations.

Upon arrival HR Borrell said that Czech Minister of Foreign Affairs Jan Hamáček will inform the ministers on the Czech expulsion of Russian diplomats. They will continue the discussion with the health situation of Alexei Navalny, who is on a hunger strike in the penal colony.

Ministers will discuss also the situation at the Ukrainian border with the deployment of the Russian troops.  They will also hold an informal exchange with the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba.

The Council will as well exchange views on Ethiopia. “We will listen to the report of the Finnish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Pekka Haavisto, I asked him to go as my envoy to visit the region and to talk with the authorities – Ethiopian authorities - and in the neighbour countries,” HV Borrell said.

He also outlined that the situation is not improving and Eritrean troops are still there, in spite of all the promises of the Eritrean government to withdraw them and humanitarian access has not been fulfilled.
