EМА postpones decision on Moderna vaccine until WednesdayEuropost
The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has postponed a decision on whether to recommend the use of a second vaccine against Covid-19 until Wednesday, the agency said on Monday evening in Amsterdam, dpa reported.
A committee of EMA experts had met on Monday, two days earlier than initially planned, to discuss the approval of the vaccine developed by US firm Moderna. Some questions remain open, according to the committee's Dutch representative.
The EMA did not rule out the possibility that it might not reach a decision before the committee's scheduled meeting on Wednesday.
The Moderna vaccine has already been approved in the US and Canada.
Once the EMA recommends the vaccine, the European Commission still needs to formally approve it, a step which need not take much time and is seen as a formality. It already green-lighted the use of a vaccine developed by Pfizer and BioNTech in December.
The EU has already ordered 160 million doses of Moderna's vaccine.
