Telecoms rules modernised, international calls get capped

EU institutions have reached a political agreement over an update to the bloc's telecoms rules that aim to meet Europeans' growing connectivity needs and allow them to participate fully in the digital economy. Accord was secured on 6 June after months of negotiations. It fixes a price cap on international calls of no more than 19 cents per minute, and texts at a maximum of 6 cents each, within the bloc. It also plans to enhance the availability of 5G radio spectrum by end of 2020.
