Scandalous! bTV journalist on protests: I’ll make something up!

An on-air blunder by a female bTV journalist has exposed the way the coverage of protests is being manipulated by a national TV network that has come to be known as Bozhkov TV because of its shameful dependencies on the fugitive gambling tzar Vasil Bozhkov, who is hiding in Dubai after getting slapped with 18 felony charges.

Bozhkov(b)TV swallows BGN 8m after scandalous contract with BST, the oligarch's firms rake in profits

Within less than four years, BGN 8m have flown into the cashbox of the allegedly independent station bTV thanks to a scandalous contract with the state-owned company Bulgarian Sports Totalisator (BST) for buying airtime and broadcasting the Sports Toto programme. A journalistic inquiry of Blitz found out that the abovementioned contract was signed in September 2016 but without a tender, as loophole in the law - namely in the Public Procurement Act (PPA) - was used which presents a possibility for contractors not to apply PPA provisions when concluding contracts with the providers of media services.

bTV caught in a cobweb of Bozhkov and Bulgarian Madoff

One of Bulgaria's national TV stations got caught in a real oligarchic cobweb. Three oligarchs at odds with the justice system managed to spread their tentacles, reaching deep into it: Vasil Bozhkov, charged with inflicting damages to the state treasury to the tune of BGN 700m, indicted fugitive banker Tsvetan Vassilev, and Ivo Prokopiev - an oligarch with two pending cases indicted for privatisation-related affairs.

Rotund internet troll working for Prokopiev lies on air

Did you know that there is a Bulgarian “politician”, who uses the Google search engine like a public register? A place where he can procure “evidence” against the enemies of his bosses (oligarchs who control mainstream media and employ talking heads like him to discredit said enemies).

Oligarch Prokopiev – The Godfather of the mainstream

In a transcript of the half-secret meetings of the ARGO behind-the-scenes clique, oligarch Ivo Prokopiev admits to controlling “the mainstream”. This term denotes the entire network of media outlets through which the Capital circle has been trying to dictate the public agenda and cover up for the aforementioned clique for the past 20 years.

Websites take grants to promote rule of law, spout propaganda and fake news instead

All sorts of websites protecting the interests not of society but of the oligarchy are receiving grants for hundreds of thousands of levs. In many cases the sponsor is the America for Bulgaria Foundation, and the money, which essentially comes from the pockets of US taxpayers, is allocated to these online media outlets to promote the rule of law through quality journalism. Instead, those websites inundate the public consciousness with fake news serving the interests of oligarchic circles in the country – Capital ran by Ivo Prokopiev and his cronies, tried and charged “businessmen” like Tsvetan Vassilev and Ognyan Donev.

Prokopiev pushed the mainstream panic button

1+1=2. It is simple and logical. It is just as simple and logical that the stronger the state and public prosecution become in their war against organised crime and the oligarchy which ravaged Bulgaria during the mafia-style privatisation headed by Ivan Kostov, the more the culprits find themselves in a null-gravity condition.

Prokopiev holds mainstream media through bTV, Dnevnik and Capital

Ivo Prokopiev has turned mainstream media in Bulgaria into a machine that cleans up the tarnished image of indicted oligarchs. Prokopiev, who is being tried for two crimes, is shamelessly trying to dictate the public’s agenda and opinion, using not only the flagships of its machine for fabrications, Dnevnik and Capital, but publications affiliated with them.

Oligarch Prokopiev uses bTV as nose-wipe

Oligarch Ivo Prokopiev who stands trial for the EVN affair and is indicted for the Kaolin deals decided to switch over to “protection mode”. To this end he gave an emergency interview for the breakfast-time block of the bTV channel and virtually used the channel like a handkerchief to wipe his tears shed over the fact that in the long run the State started digging into the affairs he is implicated in. Prokopiev’s media appearance doesn’t come as a surprise having in mind that some time ago he himself admitted in the verbatim records of the ARGOgate (the authenticity of which he again himself confirmed on air – Ed.’s note) that he is dominating the mainstream in Bulgaria.

      bTV censors Peevski

“All viewpoints”, the slogan used by one of the biggest TV networks in Bulgaria for its news programme branding, has obviously undergone a slight change. The bTV news programmes clearly cover “all viewpoints of the behind-the-scenes clique” and in an extremely manipulative fashion at that, which results in disinformation.
