      Brussels hosts first Global Vaccination Summit

      The European Commission co-hosts with the World Health Organisation (WHO) the first Global Vaccination Summit on 12 September in Brussels. The aim is to accelerate global action to stop the spread of vaccine-preventable diseases, and advocate against the vaccine misinformation. “Vaccination already prevents 2-3m deaths a year and could prevent a further 1.5m if global vaccination coverage improved. Today's summit is an opportunity to address this gap, EC President Jean-Claude Juncker said.

      EU, WHO team up to boost access to health services

      The European Union signed yesterday a €102m contribution agreement with the World Health Organisation (WHO) at the European Development Days in Brussels. As stated by the European Commission, the bloc will invest in building health care systems to provide quality services in more than 80 African, Caribbean, Pacific, and Asian countries. The “Health Systems Strengthening for Universal Health Coverage Partnership Programme” launched today will also benefit in a longer term from an EU overall contribution of €118m out of a total budget of €123m.
