Italian Health Minister Roberto Speranza on Thursday issued a ban on air, road and rail travel from Serbia, Montenegro and Kosovo to Italy due to the COVID crisis, ANSA reported. They have been added to the list of 13 countries considered to be at high risk for coronavirus spread.

Norway will lift travel restrictions to and from more than 20 European countries from 15 July, including France, Germany and Britain as well as three of the 21 provinces of neighbouring Sweden, the government of PM Erna Solberg announced on Friday.

More than 6 million people worldwide have been infected with the coronavirus since the start of the pandemic, according to the latest tally from Johns Hopkins University. Data compiled by the US university put the number of cases at more than 6,057,000 late on Saturday. Almost 370,000 people worldwide have died in connection to COVID-19, the lung disease caused by the virus, the data showed.

The US President Donald Trump on Sunday suspended travel from Brazil, which has emerged as a major new hotspot in the coronavirus pandemic, news wires reported. Non-Americans who have been in Brazil in the 14-day period prior to when they seek admittance to the US cannot come to America, the White House announced.

Spain will reopen to international tourism from July, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said on Saturday, as the country is slowly emerging from one of Europe’s strictest lockdowns, implemented on 14 March. There will be, however, security measures in destinations and at points of origin.

EU Member States should guarantee vouchers for travel cancelled during the coronavirus pandemic and start lifting internal border restrictions in a bid to salvage some of the summer tourism season, the bloc’s executive is to insist next week.

Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia will open their borders to each others’ citizens from 15 May, creating a Baltic “travel bubble” within the European Union amid an easing of pandemic restrictions, their prime ministers said on Wednesday. The Baltic travel area would be first of its kind in the bloc, where most countries restricted entry to non-nationals and imposed a quarantine on incoming travelers as the novel coronavirus spread across the continent.

The German government warned foreign travel would not be risk-free even if travel restrictions were lifted, Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said on Wednesday, adding that Germany hopes to discuss a coordinated solution with its European Union partners.
