      Hundreds protesters marched on Saturday in the streets of major cities in the Netherlands in a protest against the introduced "corona pass" which is equivalent to proof of Covid-19 vaccination and became compulsory to get into bars, restaurants, theatres and other public venues, Reuters reported. Only few hours after the new requirements took effect, the government of caretaker Prime Minister Mark Rutte fired a deputy minister who had publicly questioned the measures.

      Germany's flood crisis escalated on Thursday with the army deployed to the worst-hit areas of the country amid mass evacuations, dpa reported. At least 58 people are confirmed dead after being unable to escape the raging flood waters that engulfed parts of western Germany following days of torrential rain. In the city of Cologne alone, police on Thursday confirmed the deaths of 20 people in the floods. Flooding has also devastated parts of the Netherlands and Belgium.

      Peter R. de Vries, the renowned Dutch crime reporter shot last week in a brazen attack in Amsterdam, has died, AP reported on Thursday citing Dutch media. “Peter fought to the end, but was unable to win the battle,” RTL, the Dutch network De Vries regularly worked for, cited the family statement as saying. “Peter has lived by his conviction: ‘On bended knee is no way to be free,’” the statement said. “We are unbelievably proud of him and at the same time inconsolable.”
