      Legendary violinist Augustin Dumay to play in Sofia

      On 8 April, the Sofia Philharmonic is returning to the stage of Bulgaria Hall with a couple of Mendelssohn pieces. Under the conduction of Adrija Čepaitė, the orchestra will play Violin Concerto in E minor and Symphony No.1 in C minor by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy. World-renowned French violinist Augustin Dumay will be the event's soloist. Critics describe him as one of the greatest violinists of the 20th and 21st centuries.

      Virtuoso pianist Evgeny Kissin gives a recital in Sofia

      Musical phenomenon Evgeny Kissin will take part in the new season of the Sofia Philharmonic. On 11 March, in Bulgaria Hall, the outstanding pianist will give a recital of works by Berg, Gershwin, Khrennikov and Chopin. The programme's idea was born during the isolation last year, which the musician spent in Prague. The contrasting at first glance works are united by the motif of love, says Kissin. “I'm an omnivorous person, there's a lot of music I love, so I just hope for one thing: live long enough to have time to play it all.”

      On 7 March, one of the most beloved and popular conductors and composers, Frederic Chaslin, will be the guest star at Bulgaria Hall in Sofia. Under his baton, the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra will present his Theme and Variations for Trombone and Orchestra on Symphony No. 3 by Gustav Mahler, Four Last Songs by Richard Strauss and Symphony No. 38 in D major (Prague) by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

      On 25 February, pianist Sergei Redkin and conductor Sascha Goetzel are set to perform at Bulgaria Hall in Sofia. The evening's programme will include Piano Concerto No. 17 in G major by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and the chamber orchestra piece Sinfonietta Op. 23 by Alexander Zemlinsky. At the conductor's podium will be Sofia Philharmonic's principal guest conductor Sascha Goetzel.

      Sofia Philharmonic salutes Europe

      Some 93 orchestra players and choir singers with the Sofia Philharmonic participated in a performance of the Anthem of Europe, with each of them recording their part at home. Maestro Nayden Todorov, conductor and director of the orchestra, recorded his bit in front of Yoan Leviev’s monumental mural Man and Peace displayed in Hall 8 of the National Palace of Culture in Sofia – an artwork whose message relates to freedom, unity and all the other values bringing us together, especially in trying days like these.
