      Sofia Philharmonic to perform on open air stage

      Violin Concerto by Johannes Brahms and Symphony No. 3 “Scottish” by Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy will be played at the Summer Stage Borissova Gradina in Sofia on 29 July at 8pm. The Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra will perform on the open air stage in the company of violinist Mario Hossen and under the baton of Maestro Nayden Todorov. The event is part of Sofia Philharmonic's summer programme Share the Music.

      Italian maestra conducts Sofia Philharmonic

      Italian Maestra Gianna Fratta will conduct the Sofia Philharmonic during a concert on the Summer Stage in Sofia at 8pm on 8 July. The first concert of the national orchestra's summer programme will feature Italian film music by brilliant composers such as Nino Rota and Ennio Morricone. Dedicated to the 100th anniversary from the birth of legendary Italian film director Federico Fellini, the same list of works was performed to great success in November 2020, when Bulgaria Hall turned out to be too small for all the people who wanted to enjoy the soundtracks to classic films such as La Dolce Vita, Amarcord, The Cheetah, 8 1/2, Nuovo Cinema Paradiso, etc.

      Virtuoso pianist Oleg Maisenberg to play in Sofia

      The outstanding pianist Oleg Maisenberg is set to play for the Bulgarian audience on 1 July at Bulgaria Hall in Sofia. Together with the Sofia Philharmonic, he will perform Rachmaninoff's brilliant Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini. The programme of the concert, to be conducted by Oleg Ptashnikov, will also include Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 1.

      Three young virtuosos visit Sofia Philharmonic

      On 10 June, the Sofia Philharmonic is welcoming three remarkable musicians. Virtuoso French violinist Tedi Papavrami is set to perform Violin Concerto No. 3 by Saint-Saens. The young and rising star of Russian music Abisal Gergiev, son of superstar conductor Valery Gergiev, will be the soloist of Piano Concerto by Scriabin. Conductor Zaurbek Gugkaev will complete the programme with an audiences' favourite - the Romeo and Juliet fantasy-overture by Tchaikovsky.

      Paganini of the trumpet to perform in Sofia

      Sergei Nakariakov - one of the greatest trumpet players of our time - will be a soloist of the Sofia Philharmonic on 13 May, under the direction of maestro Nayden Todorov. He agreed to include Bulgaria in his programme after the violinist Ray Chen announced he could not come to the country due to travel difficulties caused by the coronavirus crisis.

      The great violinist Gidon Kremer will take part in the new season of Sofia Philharmonic. He was to come to Sofia at the end of last year but due to the coronavirus crisis he had to postpone his concerts. Now he will present two programmes in Bulgaria Hall. On 18 April at 11am he will perform under the baton of maestro Nayden Todorov. Uros Lajowitz will be the conductor of his second concert on 22 April at 7pm.

      Virtuoso violinist Daniel Hope gives his first concert in Bulgaria

      A star-studded lineup of soloists is set to appear in a 15 April concert of the Sofia Philharmonic. World-renowned violinist Daniel Hope, whose Europe@Home concerts during the lockdown have been viewed by hundreds of thousands of classical music lovers, will play Benjamin Britten's Violin Concerto. Opera star Alexandrina Pendatchanska is performing the final scene of Richard Strauss's opera Salome. The programme will also include the national orchestra's performance of a fragment of Richard Wagner's opera Tristan and Isolde. The event's conductor will be Grigor Palikarov.
