      Italy approved a decree offering state guarantees for a €6.3bn loan to Fiat Chrysler’s Italian unit, paving the way for the largest crisis loan to a European carmaker,  news wires reported. Italy’s audit court had signed off on the decree, in a final step of what had been a lengthy and contested process to get the loan approved, said a source close to the matter. The court’s approval follows an earlier endorsement by the economy ministry.

      US-Italian auto giant Fiat Chrysler and France's Groupe PSA, the maker of Peugeot and Citroen cars, announced Wednesday they are in merger talks that could create the world's number four automaker. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) said in a statement it "confirms there are ongoing discussions aimed at creating one of the world's leading mobility groups" with PSA. The statement and a similar one from PSA however offered no additional details.

      An EU court on Tuesday annulled an order by Brussels that Starbucks pay €30m euros to the Netherlands, saying regulators had failed to demonstrate it received illegal state aid. In a separate decision, however, the same court said Fiat must pay roughly the same amount to Luxembourg, upholding a similar EU order from 2015, AFP reports. The cases can now be appealed at the EU's highest court, the European Court of Justice.

      Fiat sells its auto parts unit to Japan's Calsonic

      Fiat Chrysler's new CEO has struck a deal to sell the company's Italian auto parts business for almost €7bn. According to company's announcement Japan's Calsonic Kansei is buying its Magneti Marelli division for a total of €6.2bn. The combined business will now have annual revenue of €15.2bn and nearly 200 facilities and research centers around the world, becoming one of the world's top 10 largest auto parts suppliers. The deal is expected to close in the first half of next year.
