Free speech in Bulgaria held captive by Prokopiev and RSF

Free speech in Bulgaria is held captive by an indicted oligarch and publisher. This might sound as an exaggeration, but it is decidedly not one. It is the harsh reality, unmasked by the history of the country’s ranking in the so-called World Press Freedom Index annually compiled by Reporters Without Borders (RSF)

Kostov has his NBU lab's technicians and State Security agents attack Peevski

After the shadowy clique's pawns spread over the week their poorly concocted fake news items about lawmaker and Telegraph Media publisher Delyan Peevski, using the indicted oligarch Ivo Prokopiev's mainstream media machine, former PM Ivan Kostov, aka the Commander of Bulgaria's murky transition to democracy, took matters into his own hands. On Friday, he activated the “heavy hitters” - the “lab technicians” from his think tank with the New Bulgarian University (NBU).

Illusionist Cholakov pulls a lie about Delyan Peevski out of his top-hat instead of a rabbit

Petar Cholakov, who is Ivo Prokopiev’s guy in the Bulgarian desk of Deutsche Welle, has one job: to voice the oligarch’s thoughts. The master of the mainstream media machine in Bulgaria, Prokopiev has been trying to escape the clutches of the judicial system for years. To that end, former PM Ivan Kostov’s favourite “investor” during the privatisation process uses all sorts of dirty and despicable machinations. Mostly, he tries to pull wool over people’s eyes by using his giant media empire to produce fake news as well as cheap scripts to exert influence on the executive and judicial branches of power.

      Capital Project

Do you remember The Matrix, the hit film that at the turn of the 21st century showed a dystopian world in which people can be held captives? The first installment in the series came out in 1999 – by that year, former PM Ivan Kostov, the godfather of Bulgaria’s murky privatisation process, had already created his first oligarchs. In the real world, he had laid the foundations of a parallel state that would become his mechanism of controlling the behind-the-scenes clique for years to come. And that has continued to this day even though lack of voter support got him out of politics nearly two decades ago.

Peevski Act challenged by lawyers of shadowy clique

The Supreme Bar Council (SBC), which has ties to the behind-the-scenes circles and serves the interests of the oligarchy, has challenged the last amendments to the Bank Insolvency Act that were initiated back in 2015 and give legal recourse to the CorpBank bankruptcy administrators to return to its insolvency estate property acquired with the lender's money. The SBC has requested that the constitutionality of the entire package of amendments commonly known as “the 2018 Peevski amendment for CorpBank” be reviewed.

Two-faced Sasho proves his mettle with fake news about Peevski

Until recently, the legislative initiatives of lawmaker Delyan Peevski were keeping the oligarchy awake at night. Those acts stopped the secondary plundering of CorpBank assets and facilitated the return of BGN 1.25bn to the insolvency estate of the lender whose collapse was engineered by the financial fraudster Tsvetan Vassilev. They also laid the groundwork for introducing more transparency into media ownership and financing.

Prokopiev’s mainstream lives up to Stalin’s legacy

Stalin may have been dead for nearly 70 years now but his pernicious legacy is still living. The proof to that are his eminent followers in Bulgaria who under socialism were sitting pretty at the communist nomenclatura feeding rack and after the onset of democracy changed into expensive suits, put on white collars, privatised for cents on the dollar whatever they could get hold of and with the plundered money purchased their own media to have a chance to go on privatising.
