Tsvetan Vassilev's man to be hosted by Lozan Panov

Tsvetan Vassilev (L) and Georgi Georgiev

The NGO Boets (translated as Fighter), which has been servicing the interests of fugitive banker Tsvetan Vassilev and his oligarchic cronies since its inception, is set to meet with the head of the Supreme Court of Cassation Lozan Panov.

This was announced by the NGO’s chairperson Georgi Georgiev himself on his Facebook page. The conversation is scheduled for 9 January, while the organisation explicitly notes that the meeting is at the initiative of Boets and was set after a written request sent to Panov’s office. The ostensible goal is for Georgiev, who documented his connection to Tsvetan Vassilev with a picture of them taken at the lobby of a Belgrade hotel, to introduce Panov to Boets’s initiative for “independent court”. Additionally, the NGO plans to acquaint Panov with documents reflecting the state’s inaction and the justice system’s dependencies. Ironically, this meeting shines a light on one of those dependencies – the one between Panov himself and the banker hiding in another country. It was in service of Tsvetan Vassilev that the court headed by Panov came out with an interpretive ruling on civil forfeiture. It created the very real chance that dozens of illegally acquired assets forfeiture cases could be blocked, including the one concerning over BGN 2bn is assets filed against the fugitive banker Vassilev who is still holed up in Belgrade. To stave off such a scenario, the National Assembly had to urgently adopt amendments.
