Mario Hossen becomes artistic director of Varna Summer FestEuropost , Sofia
Mario Hossen, a virtuoso violinist with a striking style, has been appointed artistic director of the oldest festival in Bulgaria - Varna Summer International Music Festival. Following the announcement, he told the media that this year's edition will encompass music events stretching from March to December. The organisers' ambition is to attract world-renowned names and promote Varna, and Bulgaria as a whole, as destinations for cultural tourism.
The 2019 Varna Summer will unofficially start on 24 March with a concert by Mario Hossen and the Vienna Chamber Orchestra at the Festival and Congress Centre. The festival's official opening is set for 23 June, when the Varna Philharmonic Orchestra will perform together with the exceptional violinist Benjamin Schmid as soloist under the conduction of Georgi Dimitrov. The main programme of Varna Summer features concerts by the Sofia Soloists and the Sofia Sinfonietta chamber orchestras as well as the Sofia Philharmonic. The audience will also be treated to a performance by the national philharmonic orchestra of Poland, with soloists Augustin Dumay and Gerard Causse.
