Exhibition performance of disinformation against Peevski
Oligarchs attack the lawmaker with manipulations owing to his candidature for MEPMonitor News Agency , Sofia
“A lie gets half way around the world before the truth has chance to put its pants on.” The words Winston Churchill said 70 years ago perfectly describe the disinformation which plagues part of the Bulgarian media today. They quote half-truths or openly fake news in a bid to slur what is actually happening in the country.
They quote half-truths or openly fake news in a bid to slur what is actually happening in the country. This ‘educational activity’ is far from charity – a certain oligarchic circle is prepared to give anything in order to paint blacker than the devil their sworn enemy, the MP of the opposition party Movement for Rights and Freedoms and publisher of Telegraph Media Delyan Peevski and at the same time to cover up their own shady deals.
Let’s quote an illustrative example of the recent hours – Aktualno website has released an extensive text under the title “The lawsuit against Peevski and BNB in the US is de facto underway”. Before examining the very text let us pay attention to the title. What does it tell us? In terms of information – nothing. It reports an old news, namely that in the US a civil claim was brought under the RICO Act against 20 natural and juridical persons, as the lawsuit is at its initial stage. At the same time, however, the title is highly manipulative because it fails to provide the most important information, such as the number of litigants or the fact that a very close associate of fugitive banker Tsvetan Vassilev stands behind the claim. The editor’s choice of the defendants is also interesting. This choice leaves an erroneous impression that the suit is brought against Peevski and BNB (Bulgarian National Bank) whereas actually the name of the lawmaker is lugged to a huge list of names, just because the oligarchs want to hurt Peevski personally. You will not get to these facts even if you read the very text which clearly shows that the aim of the exercise is not to inform the reader about some news, on the contrary – the shadowy bosses are eager to keep reminding the community that a next in a row framed-up trial against Peevski has been staged in the US (omitting the fact that the case doesn‘t hold water, at least in the part involving Peevski – Ed.’s note) in an attempt to publicly castigate Peevski.
And the truth, which is still “putting on its pants” somewhere round the corner, is very simple: for years Peevski has been No.1 enemy of the backstage clique in Bulgaria. He drives them mad with his draft bills which bring to light their media games and forestall their attempts to pick the bones of the remaining ‘golden’ assets bought with the money of CorpBank depositors. They are terribly worried that he publishes newspapers which provide facts and evidence and publicly expose the machinations of the indicted oligarchs, Ivo Prokopiev, Tsvetan Vassilev, Ognyan Donev and Sasho Donchev. That is why they are trying to muffle him or at least to discredit him in the eyes of the community and thus bring to naught the disclosures of their crimes. Nevertheless, sooner or later the truth will surface, naked or dressed.
