Almond 'fa' from Pecs won Tree of the Year Award

The old almond tree in front of the Church of Our Lady of the Snow in Pecs, Hungary.

The 135-year-old almond 'fa' (tree in Hungarian) in front of the Church of Our Lady of the Snow in the beautiful Hungarian city Pecs, is the winner of the European Tree of the Year contest 2019, held under the patronage of Commissioner Karmenu Vella. 

The ceremony took place at the European Parliament in Brussels on 19 March and was hosted by MEP Pavel Poc, vice-chair of ENVI Committee. The second prize went to Abramtsevo oak, Russia, and the third to secular holm oak, Monte Barbeiro, Portugal.
