      Ukraine wants the European Court of Human Rights to condemn as illegal Russia's recent capturing of the crews of several Ukrainian naval vessels, Ukrainian Deputy Justice Minister Ivan Lishchyna said on Monday. In a post on his Facebook page, Lishchyna announced the Ukrainian government filed a statement for the case with the Strasbourg-based court demanding the "the court to acknowledge the fact of the violation by the Russian Federation of the rights of 24 Ukrainian seamen during the illegal attack."

      The suspected gunman who killed three people at a Christmas market in the French city of Strasbourg was shot dead last Thursday in a brief gun battle with police after being on the run for 48 hours, police sources said.
