Two Hollywood icons to be awarded Golden Lion
22 July, 2017
Robert Redford and Jane Fonda will be awarded the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at this year's Venice Film Festival, organisers of the event said last Monday. The career lions will be given to the Hollywood legends on 1 September and after the awards ceremony the festival will screen out of competition the world premiere of Netflix film Our Souls at Night, directed by Ritesh Batra, starring Fonda and Redford. The film is produced by Redford and his company Wildwood Enterprises and marks the first time that the two cinema icons have re-teamed on screen since their lead roles in The Electric Horseman (1979). They previously starred together in Barefoot in the Park (1967). Our Souls at Night is about two neighbours who meet after decades of living in the same small town with very little contact.
The 74th Venice Film Festival will open on 30 August with Oscar-winning US director Alexander Payne's latest movie Downsizing, starring Matt Damon as a man who realises he would have a better life if he shrank himself.
