Sonya Yoncheva arrives for Bulgarian concert
13 April, 2017
Following a series of remarkable debuts in some of the most prestigious music halls in Europe and America, Sonya Yoncheva is set to arrive for a concert in Bulgaria. The event is scheduled to take place on 18 June in Hall 1 of the National Palace of Culture in Sofia. The opera star is coming to Sofia following guest performances at Milan’s La Scala and her sweeping success at Met Opera’s Traviata, a production that has set a world record in attendance as tickets went for up to $2,500 on the black market, while the German publication Die Welt pronounced Yoncheva “the best Violetta of the modern era”. Her repertoire features exceptional portrayals of Desdemona in Otello, Micaela in Carmen and Mimi in La Boheme, while her Iolanta in Tchaikovsky’s eponymous work at the Paris Opera was praised as the best portrayal of this role. The Royal Opera House in London has chosen Sonya Yoncheva as the face of its season, giving her the part of Norma in the world-renowned opera house’s first return to Bellini’s work in 29 years to open the current season.
